Volkswagen Golf Service & Repair Manual: Assembly overview - cylinder head

  Note
The camshafts must not be removed individually.
In the event of repair, the camshaft housing must be renewed completely.
  Note
The illustration shows the cylinder head for engine codes CHPA, CMBA, CPVA, CXSA, CZCA and CPVB.
The component positions for engine codes CPTA and CZEA are the same.
   

Assembly overview - cylinder head

1 -  Cylinder head gasket
Renew → Chapter
Observe installation position: Part number to cylinder head
2 -  Dowel sleeve
Qty. 2
3 -  Cylinder head
Removing and installing → Chapter
Check for distortion → Fig..
4 -  Dowel pins
5 -  Gasket
With oil strainer
Inserted into cylinder head
  Note
The oil strainer is fitted only if the cylinder head has the appropriate recess.
Cylinder heads with recess do not require an oil strainer.
6 -  Gasket
Renew
7 -  Camshaft housing
Removing and installing → Chapter
8 -  Bolt
Specified torque and tightening sequence → Fig.
9 -  Bolt
Renew
Sequence when loosening → Anchor.
Specified torque and tightening sequence → Fig.

 
     
Cylinder head - specified torque and sequence
  Note
Renew bolts that are tightened with specified tightening angle.
–  Tighten bolts in stages in the sequence shown:

Stage Bolts Specified torque/ additional specified angle
1 -1 … 10- 40 Nm
2 -1 … 10- Turn 90° further
3 -1 … 10- Turn 90° further
4 -1 … 10- Turn 90° further
 
     
Checking cylinder head for distortion
–  Use straight edge 500 mm -VAS 6075- and feeler gauge to measure cylinder head for distortion at several points.
Max. permissible distortion: 0.05 mm.
