  Caution
The following work must not be performed while the universal joint is separated from the steering rack:
Connect battery.
Switch on ignition.
Turn steering rack.
Turn steering column.
Not adhering to these instructions will result in irreparable damage.

Assembly overview - steering rack, left-hand drive

1 -  Fastener
2 -  Steering column
3 -  Bolt
Specified torque → Chapter „Assembly overview - steering column“
4 -  Steering rack
Removing and installing → Chapter
Different versions possible. Refer to → Electronic Parts Catalogue “ETKA”
With power steering control unit -J500-
Can be tested in “Guided fault finding” using → Vehicle diagnostic tester
5 -  Nut
Renew after removing
20 Nm +90°
6 -  Left wheel bearing housing
7 -  Bolt
Renew after removing
70 Nm +90°
8 -  Subframe
9 -  Right wheel bearing housing
10 -  Heat shield
Different versions possible depending on engine version. Refer to → Electronic Parts Catalogue “ETKA”
11 -  Bolt
Either qty. 3 or qty. 4 are fitted depending on engine version. Refer to → Electronic Parts Catalogue “ETKA”
8 Nm
12 -  Wiring
