Volkswagen Golf Service & Repair Manual: Classification of extraction and charging devices in groups
Portable extraction and charging devices linking the air
conditioning system to a fixed compressed gas container. |
The fixed compressed gas container is charged with
refrigerant or refrigerant/oil mixture. The portable extraction
and charging device is then permanently attached to the pressure
vessel. In accordance with § 3 section 5 no. 3 of the
Regulations for Pressure Tanks, in this case the terms
"compressed gas container" and "pressure tank" are equivalent. |
Charging devices require: |
no checking by an authorised official, since the gas is held
in the compressed gas container, which is equivalent to a
pressure tank. (Devices for filling refrigerant from these
pressure tanks into compressed gas containers that are intended
for third-party use, in turn, require licensing and they are
subject to checking by an authorised official.) |
Note
The air conditioner service and recycling devices used in
vehicle workshops are Group 3 extraction and charging devices
which do not require a permit, but which can be operated only by
skilled staff. Refer to the manufacturer's documentation for
instructions on operating and maintaining these devices. |
