Volkswagen Golf Service & Repair Manual: Removing and installing cover cap, without lock cylinder

  Note
The cover cap is installed when no lock cylinder is fitted.

Special tools and workshop equipment required
   
   

Assembly tool -T10389-

Removing and installing cover cap, without lock cylinder

–  Remove plugs -3-.
–  Insert assembly tool -T10389- approx. 44 mm into the door behind locking hook -2- of the door handle bracket.
–  Pull assembly tool -T10389- approx. 5 mm backwards -arrow- until hook is detached.

–  Pull door handle -1- off door -arrow a-.
–  Pull cover cap -1- out of mounting bracket -arrow b-.

 
Installing

–  Pull door handle -2- off door in direction of -arrow a-.
–  Push cover cap -1- into mounting bracket -arrow b-.

–  Slightly press cover cap -1- onto door.
–  Insert flat-bladed screwdriver -4- approx. 40 mm into door handle bracket until locking hook -3- is reached.
–  Press cap -1- onto door.
–  Push screwdriver approx. 5 mm into hole -arrow- until hook locks in place -3-.
–  Insert plug -5-.
